Story
I'm not someone who is going to be running a marathon or climbing a mountain any time soon to raise money... but one way I can do my bit, is to bring my wonderful choir friends together. We love a public sing-song (more than I think any of us realised we would!) - so we're going to do what we do best and sing our hearts out at Jackson Square on Sunday 13 July 2025, collecting donations in aid of FareShare.
Who is FareShare I hear you ask... and what will they do with my money?
An estimated 11m people (8m adults and 3m children) are facing food insecurity - this represents nearly one in seven people in the UK. There are families up and down the country who can't afford enough healthy food.
Yet over 4.6m tonnes of good-to-eat food goes to waste in the UK food supply chain each year. This is enough for 10 BILLION meals.
FareShare is the UK's national network of charitable food redistributors. Through a network of partners, and an army of over 25,000 volunteers, they take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to over 8,000 frontline charities and community groups - from school breakfast clubs, older people's lunch clubs, homeless shelters and community cafes.
Last year - 1m people received food thanks to FareShare.
For every £1 donated, the impact is huge - this helps deliver five meals to those who need it.
So if you can spare the odd pound or two, I'll be ever so grateful!
