Story
NHS mental health waiting lists are estimated to stand at between 1.7 and 1.8 million people, with a target for 95% of patients to receive treatment within 18 weeks.
JOCA, which stands for Just One Click Away, was established in 2021 following the tragic loss of several members of our club to suicide. Our aim is to encourage open and honest conversations about mental health and, most importantly, provide access to fully funded professional support when it is needed — often within 24 hours.
Since our launch, JOCA has supported not only senior male members of the rugby club, but also the womans, minis's, colts and youth teams, families, partners, students and non-playing members of our wider rugby community.
To date, we have funded more than 300 hours of independent professional counselling, at an average cost of £65 per hour, representing almost £20,000 in support of people's mental health and wellbeing
The support we provide covers a wide range of circumstances, including one-to-one counselling covering suicidal thoughts, anxiety, addictions, relationships, marriage difficulties, we have covered rehabilitation costs following a serious rugby accident, we even helped someone purchase a suit for a job interview — and they got the job!
Fundraising and donations enable JOCA and BSRFC to continue providing support to anyone within our rugby family who reaches out for help, without judgement or discrimination.
Through the continued generosity of our supporters, we are making a genuine difference to people's lives — not only within Bishop's Stortford Rugby Club, but throughout the wider community.
