Story
This June, four of the team from the BTG Eddisons valuations team in Bristol – Charlie Whitehead, Andrew Forbes, Fraser Dawe, and Thorfinn Doyle – are climbing 80 feet up the rigging of the SS Great Britain to raise money for the Trust's new museum.
The SS Great Britain is a proper Bristol landmark, and on 19 June we are going 'aloft': up the rigging to the viewing platform high above the weather deck, and out along the main yard if our nerve holds. The Victorian crews did this without any safety equipment, whereas we will at least have harnesses!
The ship means a lot to the team. Andrew volunteers there every week, and Charlie has his own connection to the place that makes this one matter. Every pound raised goes towards the redevelopment of the Dockyard Museum, which the Trust is rebuilding from the ground up to open its collection of 75,000 objects to communities across Bristol.
Whatever you are able to give would mean a great deal, and would help the Trust open the new museum.
Thank you for getting behind them!

The SS Great Britain Trust is one of Bristol’s most beloved museums, housing the iconic heritage ship the SS Great Britain.
They have challenged us to Go Aloft! and raise crucial funds to help them open a new museum which will put Bristol’s communities at the heart of the story. Through working with community researchers from across the city, the SS Great Britain Trust is taking everything out of the current Dockyard Museum and completely starting again to create space that reflect the values of our city. The new museum will take visitors on a journey across the world following voyagers as they created new lives abroad, the sailors and crew who chartered the magnificent ship and the engineers who kept it running as they circled the globe 32 times!
Our challenge is to climb 80 ft high up the rigging of the ship and traverse 9m along the main yard, following the footsteps of Victorian sailors who made the brave journey to travel the world taking voyagers for new beginnings.
Any support is hugely appreciated!
