Story

What – The BTGI 9 - 100 mile ultramarathon

When – 25/26th April 2025 in conjunction with Ben’s Memorial Walk

Where – the Fylde coast – running from Blackpool RUFC to Fylde RUFC return x9

Why - in support of BenTrendGetInvolved

BenTrendGetInvolved (BTGI) is a foundation that supports individuals and clubs involved in sport on the Fylde Coast and in Richmond, London. It was set up in memory of a friend of mine, Ben Trend, who I played rugby with at Blackpool and Fylde rugby clubs. Sadly, Ben died in a tragic accident whilst on holiday in South Africa in 2010 and his family decided to honour his memory by supporting and helping fund certain individuals and sports clubs in the two areas where Ben had grown up and lived.

Ben was a born adventurer and had undertaken many long-distance challenges in the UK and further afield, so in that vein, I have decided to take on the following…

At 12 noon on Friday 25th April, I will begin to run the 11.5 miles from Blackpool RUFC to Fylde RUFC return, return, etc - 9 legs will be approximately 103 miles hence the BTGI 9. The route will be Bispham, Blackpool and St Annes promenades, Fairhaven Lake and Ansdell, return. I will aim to be at Blackpool RUFC before 9am on the morning of Saturday 26th April ready for the last leg to coincide with the annual walk to Fylde RUFC, undertaken by Ben’s family and friends, in memory of Ben and in support of BTGI.

I’ll be looking for company on any of the 9 legs so if you wish to join me for a little jog up or down Blackpool front, please get in touch. On the day, I’ll be carrying a GPS tracker so at any given time you’ll have a good idea where I’ll be.
