Burcu's fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis Society

MS Walk Birmingham · 14 June 2025 ·
Hi, i’m Burcu and I was diagnosed with MS in September 2024 after struggling to walk in July the same year. My world collapsed when i heard the doctors tell me they suspected MS after seeing lesions in my brain as i had forever been very healthy as far as i was concerned. I was then admitted to hospital for a week in July and had a spine mri and lumbar puncture to confirm the diagnosis.
I was officially diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting MS in September 2024 and receive infusions to help slow the disease. Unfortunately, this also means i have a suppressed immune system as a result. I have days where i feel and look perfectly fine, and days where my legs (especially my right leg) go to sleep and i struggle with my mobility. Fatigue is my biggest enemy, especially when getting closer to the next infusion date!
To raise awareness, me, my partner, and children aged 7 and 8 along with other family members and friends will now be walking at the Birmingham MS Walk on Saturday 14th June to help stop MS.
MS is an unpredictable and incurable condition that affects people's nervous systems. It can attack suddenly or progress steadily, bringing a range of symptoms which can include sight loss, fatigue and mobility problems. No-one with MS can be sure when or how it will affect them next. Your donations will go towards life-changing MS research. Thank you!
