Story
As our many of our friends and family know Colin's cancer journey began on the 18th March 2024. Colin got the news that he had Burkitt lymphoma which is a rare, fast-growing cancer.
In honour of the 5 months he spent in Belfast City Hospital in 10 North he has decided on his Cancerversary we as a team are going to give back and abseil from the tower block he spent all that time in and myself visiting.
Today Colin's journey is still ongoing. Cancer is like climbing a mountain, the end of the treatment is like getting to the top. Colin is trying to learn to get back down. The getting back down seems almost slower. Exhaustion, tiredness, fatigue and daily struggles.
Friends of the Cancer Centre's work focuses on four key areas – patient care, patient comfort, research and cancer awareness – supporting the services provided by the Health Service.
Colin availed greatly from the services of this amazing charity and still does and it feels right that we as a family try to give back.
In the last year the charity has invested over £1.13 million into local cancer services through the life-saving and life-changing work we support.
The sponsorship money raised through this event helps fund the charity's vital support services to patients and their families across Northern Ireland.
How your support can make a difference:
£10 could provide tea and coffee for 43 people attending the hospital for treatment
£25 could help pay for 1 hour of support from a Friends of the Cancer Centre speciality nurse
£50 could pay for 2 patients to receive a complementary therapy session to help manage the side effects of treatment
£200 could help support a patient financially through the grant programme
