Story
I’ll be running the Big Half on 6th September in memory of my Grandad, whose strength and determination continue to inspire me every day.
At the age of 68, my Grandad underwent a leg amputation and was told he may never walk again, would likely need to rely on a wheelchair permanently, and may not be able to return to living independently in his own home. Determined to prove otherwise, and with the incredible support of physiotherapists, prosthetic specialists and rehabilitation services, he learned to walk again and continued doing the things he loved.
After later undergoing a second amputation on his other leg at the age of 78, his circumstances changed significantly. While he did not regain his mobility, he was still supported by a range of dedicated services that helped him adapt, maintain his independence where possible, and continue living with dignity and comfort.
I’m fundraising for Sense, a charity that supports people with complex disabilities and helps individuals and families access vital support, advice and opportunities to live more independently. Having seen first hand how life changing specialist support and rehabilitation can be, I want to help ensure others can access the care and encouragement they need to keep moving forward.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, would mean so much. If you’re unable to donate, I would be very grateful if you could share my page with others. Thank you so much for your support. 💛
