This October 4th, I’ll be celebrating Caitríona Balfe’s birthday by doing something bold, a little bit crazy - and meaningful. I’m taking a leap (literally!) off the Highland Fling Bungee platform in Scotland to raise money for World Child Cancer, a cause Caitríona passionately supports as a proud patron.

Why a bungee jump? Well, Caitríona has inspired so many of us, not just through her unforgettable role as Claire Fraser in Outlander, but also through her tireless advocacy for global health, children’s rights, and equal access to care. Her fans are a community rooted in compassion, and this is my way of channeling that spirit into action.

The jump will take place just after LandCon Edinburgh, near the historic site of the Battle of Killiecrankie, suspended over the stunning River Garry in the Highlands. What better place to honour the star of a time-traveling, Highland-set story than right here in the heart of Scotland?

World Child Cancer helps children in low- and middle-income countries access the diagnosis, treatment, and care they need. While survival rates for childhood cancer are over 80% in the UK, in many parts of the world they remain heartbreakingly low — sometimes just 10%. With our support, that can change.

So, this birthday, let’s honour Caitríona by doing something that reflects the best of what she stands for: courage, kindness, and using our voices (and nerves!) for good.
