Combined Book Read Weight Loss Challenge!

Christine Kass is raising money for Kidney Research UK

Reading Weight Loss Challenge (see update on page for explanation) · 31 October 2026

We are the largest charity dedicated to kidney research in the UK. Kidney disease ruins and destroys lives. Treatments are gruelling, relentless. There is no cure. We say this isn't good enough. We will transform kidney health. Kidney disease ends here.

Story

UPDATE: 11/07/2026

Due to a serious health situation, I will now no longer be able to undertake the West Highland Way hike. I have spoken to all my doners, and they are all happy for me to instead do a Book Read Challenge (20 books by 31st October 2026) combined with a Weight Loss Challenge (the 3st I have gained due to this health situation).

I appreciate their generosity and will continue to make efforts to hit my target.

Update: Book Royalty Donation Campaign

I am donating 100% of my author royalties from my book, Wandering Spirit, for all copies sold between 1 July 2026 and 31 October 2026. These funds are being raised in aid of Kidney Research UK (Registered Charity No. 252892). Every penny I receive as a royalty during this period will be paid directly into this JustGiving total.

Why I’m Raising Money

In Autumn 2026 I’ll be setting out on the West Highland Way — a 154km route hiking from Milngavie (just outside Glasgow) to Fort William, crossing lochs, forests, moorland and the Devil’s Staircase along the way. I’ll be tackling it over 4–6 weeks while working remotely between stages and wild-camping along the route.

I’m taking on this challenge for Kidney Research UK because kidney disease runs close to home. I have Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) myself, and my mum also has CKD, caused by chemotherapy for ovarian cancer (thankfully now more than 10 years in remission!). My dad received dialysis to help protect his kidneys when he was hospitalised with a severe infection.

Research has made a huge difference to many lives — without it, treatment options and quality of life for people with kidney disease would be far worse. That’s why I want to give something back.

Every pound helps: even many £1 donations, added together, can make a big difference.

Thank you so much for your support — it means the world.

(All costs for travel, accommodation and kit are covered by me — every penny you donate goes directly to Kidney Research UK.)

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
