Story
Last year, we took on the challenge of completing an ultramarathon, pushing ourselves physically and mentally beyond what we thought was possible. It was tough, but it showed us how much you can get through when you just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Along the way, we also managed to raise over £2,000, which made it all the more worthwhile.
This year, we’re taking it a step further - and it will be our second ultra of 2026.
On 1st August, we’ll be attempting to complete the full Calderdale Way in one go. It’s around 50 miles with over 10,000 feet of elevation, so it’s not just the distance—it’s the constant climbing, steep descents, and rough terrain that really make it a challenge. We’ll be doing it mostly unsupported too, carrying what we need and relying on our own planning and determination to get it done.
Starting at Clay House in West Vale at 09:30 on Saturday 1st August (which happens to be metres away from our Mark Lodge). There will be opportunities along the route to cheer us on, these will be updated soon.
There will definitely be moments where it hurts and where stopping would be the easier option. That’s part of it. But having a proper reason behind it makes all the difference.
We’re doing this to raise money for the Cleeves and Whitehead Trust, the charitable arm of the West Yorkshire Mark Master Masons. The Trust supports past and present members, along with their families and dependents, particularly when they’re facing hardship or difficult circumstances. It also provides support to a range of other charitable causes where help is needed.
It’s a charity that quietly does a lot of good, often behind the scenes, helping people when they need it most - and that’s a big part of why we wanted to support it through this challenge.
Taking on something like this together, and using it to give something back, makes every tough mile that bit more meaningful.
Any support, whether that’s a donation, sharing the page, or even just a message, goes a long way and genuinely helps keep us going when things get tough out there.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and for any support you can give.
