Story
Some will remember last year's event where volunteers climbed Mt. Snowdon as many times as possible in a single day (Connor - twice, Caleb - 3 times, the event's record - 5 times, completed by a volunteer with LSU), if you donated then, know that your money went towards a much needed Mill in one of the communities we help. You can read about that here https://armaghi.com/news/portadown-news/portadown-charity-whose-premises-was-incinerated-continue-to-save-lives-two-years-on/272590#:~:text=The%20Malawi%20Projects%20%E2%80%93%20a%20charity,the%20end%20of%20June%202023. This year all involved will undertake an 8 mile trek around Snowdonia and climb Mt. Snowdon as a group (only the once this year!).
What we will fund this year:
Less than 80% of children in Malawi have foundational literacy and numeracy capabilities. This statistic is worse for those with disabilities, out of which only around 30% actually attend formal education to be presented with the opportunity to develop those foundational literacy and numeracy capabilities. In our experience this lack of participation is due to a lack of equitable access to education, and certainly not due to a lack of drive on the children's behalf. We want to provide funds to the communities impacted so that they can develop solutions which work for them and leave them with a sense of ownership over the end result. In this case we are hoping for a new generation of Malawians, empowered through education. This year's fundraiser will fund the development of a new learning facility for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in Malawi and help themselves communities realise their own potential.
