In November, I’ll be stepping into the boxing ring for my first ever boxing match to raise money for the Beatson cancer charity.

For me, this is about more than the spectacle.

Cancer is something my own family has experienced, and it was the illness that took my own granddad, a man who was a hugely important figure in my life. It brings me great pleasure to do something to support other affected families just like mine.

On a more individual note, sport has never been something that has come naturally to me; for much of my life, I have struggled with self-confidence and was never especially athletic. This is another step out of my comfort zone.
