Story
On 18th January 2020, my Grandma lost her battle with Vascular Dementia after being diagnosed only approx. 18 months before at the age of 83.
It was horrible to lose a piece of her every single day, whether it be in something she forget how to do, or a memory that she had cherished for so long, eventually one by one she started to forget who the people were around her and after a turn for the worse she went into hospital and was then transferred to a care home for her final days.
She was more to me than just a Grandmother, she cared for me a lot of my life when my mum, her daughter, was unable to due to her own medical conditions and I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for the love, care and support that my Grandma gave me.
I will be walking the 2km route at Ferry Meadows, I would love to walk further but having my own diagnosis of FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) means that my mobility is limited and even the 2km will be a challenge, but I want to do it to honour someone as amazing as my Grandma was to me.
I'm not asking for a lot, but anything that you can donate will help go towards the amazing people at the Alzheimer's Society, as my grandfather and I would have been lost without their support at a time that was so challenging and unknown.
At Alzheimer’s Society they are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.
They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future.
