Edinburgh Kiltwalk 2023 · 17 September 2023 ·

Greener Peebles runs a thriving intergenerational community garden in Peebles, Scottish Borders. Volunteers learn how to grow food, develop skills, make friends and build confidence. All sessions end with a free harvest to take home, so everyone has access to fresh produce.

Story

Dorothy and I attempting the 21 mile 'Mighty Strider' in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk this September to raise funds for the charity Greener Peebles, which runs an inter-generational community garden www.greenerpeebles.org. There is always a warm welcome for visitors and volunteers. They grow fruit and vegetables and hold community events such as skill shares, community meals and gardening sessions for preschool children and babies. The garden provides an invaluable safe place, fellowship and purpose for many who visit and enjoy the beauty and productivity. Their old inefficient equipment runs on fossil fuels. Replacing with efficient electric equipment running on solar energy would bring the garden a step closer to full carbon net zero

Now that we are both in our 60s, the 'Mighty Strider' is quite a challenge and any encouragement through sponsorship or otherwise would be very welcome.
