Here we go again (haha) 🏃🏃‍♀️

Back in October, after suddenly suffering from double vision, my Dad was admitted to hospital with a rare condition yet to be diagnosed. After weeks of tests we still didn’t find the cause.

Eventually, a neurologist diagnosed Dad with Myasthenia Gravis (MG) a very rare autoimmune disease that affects just 15 per 100,000 people. MG is a long term condition that can affect people of any age, it causes muscle weakness mostly in the eyes and eyelids, facial expressions, chewing, swallowing and speaking. But it can affect most parts of the body.

Thankfully there are ways to treat MG and keep the disease under control, however, it is not curable.

Deano is managing this condition with the guidance from his neurologist and is on medication. If the condition side affects progress, there is the option to remove the thymus gland however this is not always the best option.

My Dad continues on as the tough bloke that he is, however sadly with every autoimmune disease, there are harder days - but he carries on and is always positive.

MYAWARE is the only UK charity dedicated to the care and support of people suffering with Myasthenia Gravis and we are forever grateful for how they have supported our family.

It’s not nice seeing the change in dad and the new struggle he faces, but knowing that there is the support network from my family, his friends and MYAWARE around him is something we are all so grateful for.

After running 100km in June, me and Alix have decided to take on our next challenge, to run the London marathon to raise as much money as we can for such an incredible charity.
