Story

In memory of Stephen Campbell

As you may know, Catherine’s brother died nearly four years ago at age 59 from Frontotemporal Dementia — a cruel and heartbreaking disease. He was a wonderful brother, husband, father, son and friend, who we all miss greatly.

In Stephen's memory, we are raising money to support the pioneering research of Dr Maura Malpetti at the Cambridge Centre for Frontotemporal Dementia and Related Disorders, based in the Cambridge University Department of Clinical Neuroscience.

Thank you for your donation, Simon and Catherine

The Cambridge Centre for Frontotemporal Dementia and Related Disorders

The Centre is dedicated to clinical and research excellence, spanning frontotemporal dementia, corticobasal degeneration, and progressive supranuclear palsy.

Its mission is to provide world-class care for patients and families, combined with cutting-edge research towards better diagnosis and effective treatments.

Dr Maura Malpetti is a Race Against Dementia Alzheimer’s Research UK Fellow at the Cambridge Centre for Frontotemporal Dementia and Related Disorders. Her research studies the role of chronic inflammation in Frontotemporal dementia. This inflammation leads to brain cell death, damage to the brain’s networks, and a faster decline in behaviour and cognition.

Her work combines novel brain scans and specialist blood tests. The success of the blood tests could make the research more accessible to the whole population and help clinical trials move forward. Brain inflammation is a target for future treatments, to slow or prevent frontotemporal dementia.
