Cambridge's fundraiser for Read Easy UK

Cambridge Spine Crackers Book Club is raising money for Read Easy UK

Readathon · 28 March 2026

Did you know that 2.4 million adults in England alone struggle to read or cannot read at all? Your support will help us to do even more to transform the lives of adults who want to learn to read. We provide free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching for adults delivered by trained volunteers.

Story

Cambridge Spine Crackers Book Club are putting their passion for pages to the test on Saturday, 28th March, with a sponsored six-hour "Readathon" at their local Waterstones.

The group aims to raise £250 and vital awareness for Read Easy, a charity that provides free, confidential, one-to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with literacy.

From 10am to 4pm, club members will be stationed in Waterstones, committed to reading continuously for the six-hour duration. In a nod to the joy of diverse literature, participants are free to read any genre - provided they keep their eyes on the page to help unlock the gift of reading for others.

Jack Stevens, spokesperson for Cambridge Spine Crackers, says:

"We take the ability to get lost in a good book for granted, but for many adults in our community, even a simple bus timetable could be a barrier. Cambridge Spine Crackers Book Club are using our favorite hobby to support the incredible work Read Easy does in giving people the skills they need to transform their lives."

Read Easy’s vision is for all adults in the UK to have the literacy skills they need to realise their potential and live life to the full.

Learning to read really does change lives. There are 2.4 million adults in England alone who can't read and with your support we can reach more of them.
