Group B Strep is the leading cause of severe infection in newborn babies including sepsis, meningitis and pneumonia. Charity Group B Strep Support provides support for families, improves awareness, educates health professionals and campaigns for better prevention.

Story

I am participating in the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2024 to raise funds and awareness for Group B Strep Support.

My gorgeous Nephew Theo was born in July 2022 with Strep B, which led to him contracting sepsis and spending a week in intensive care. Thankfully he is a thriving train loving two year old but strep B was something we had never heard of.

Group B Streptococcus is the UK's most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies and of meningitis in babies under the age of 3 months.

On average, at least two babies a day develop a group B Strep infection, one baby a week dies from their GBS infection, and one baby a week survives with long-term disabilities - physical, mental or both.

Most group B Strep infections are preventable and our aim is to raise awareness and support to families who have been impacted by this silent threat.

Any donation is greatly appreciated 💓💓
