Help Us Keep Life-Changing Hippotherapy Free for Disabled Children Across the North East
Hundreds of children with physical disabilities and complex needs have already benefited from our specialist hippotherapy programme, but now we need your help to ensure this life-changing therapy can continue beyond 2026.
For many years, funding has enabled us to provide free hippotherapy block sessions to children across the North East, Sadly, this funding comes to an end in December 2026, and without urgent support, the future of the programme is at risk.
At Washington Riding Centre, our qualified physiotherapist works alongside specially trained horses to deliver hippotherapy sessions that use the natural movement of the horse to support physical development. Through carefully planned activities and exercises, children can improve their strength, balance, coordination, posture, confidence and independence, all while enjoying a unique and engaging therapeutic experience.
Each week, we support 10 children through a six-week block of sessions. The demand for the service continues to grow, with many children currently on our waiting list, eagerly awaiting the opportunity to take part.
For the children we support, hippotherapy isn't just horse riding. It is a specialist physiotherapy intervention that helps them achieve goals that can have a lasting impact on their daily lives. Parents regularly tell us about increased confidence, improved mobility, better core strength and the joy their children experience each week.
What makes this even more significant is that we are currently the only charity in the entire North East providing this specialised therapy.
Today, we are asking for your help to keep this vital service running.
Our goal is to raise £20,000, which will allow us to continue providing free hippotherapy sessions for the next six months and ensure children can continue accessing support from January onwards.
