Story
Hey there!
We are Justin and Scott, and we are are running 131 miles across Gran Canaria and Tenerife in eight days, visiting the two most northerly coffee plantations in Europe! We'll also be ascending the highest point on each island; Teide being the highest in Spain.
We're doing this for Project Waterfall who bring clean water, sanitation and education to coffee-growing communities across the world.
Access to clean water changes everything. Child mortality rates drop. Girls can spend more time in school. Women can start their own businesses. And dignity is restored to communities. Every little bit you contribute will support our endeavour and help us help the beneficiaries of Project Waterfall.
ABOUT THESE TWO COFFEE LOVERS:
SCOTT is a serial adventurer with a passion for heading off on the less trodden path. Always keen to try differing modes of human powered transport, he's ridden a bamboo bicycle through Tanzania, kick scootered across Italy, skateboarded 500 miles around Denmark, rowed across the Atlantic and the Black Sea among many other adventures! Equally happy to travel on his own or as part of team, his portfolio is full of crazy trips!
No stranger to running long distances, he's buzzing to get the coffee run under way! Firefighter, Author and Jack of all - if he can raise awareness and money for worthwhile charities, he's a happy man! (He's damn sexy too 😂😂).
JUSTIN aka ‘The Coffee Man’ is passionate about travel, running and the ocean; he took his surfboard with him on a round the world trip, visiting a whole spectrum of surf breaks and discovering different places and cultures. When he started working in the scuba diving industry and by chance met a couple who had a coffee plantation in Colombia, he was inspired and soon realised his passion for coffee could go further than just sipping a good cup.
As he learned about the art of appreciating speciality coffees, he started his foray into understanding what it takes to make a great cup of coffee. It was with this revelation that he founded 51 Degrees North Coffee Company (https://www.51degreesnorthcoffee.com/)- 51°00’00.0000” North being the GPS coordinates over the River Torridge where the concept originated - just a stone’s throw away from where he lived back then and where he would always stop to look at the estuary’s wildlife on his daily run.
Justin's ethos has always been to serve great quality, consistently-made speciality coffee with expertly-extracted coffee beans roasted in the Southwest, work with local producers and suppliers as much as possible, using organic fresh farm milk and organic non-dairy milk, as well as supporting sustainable coffee plantations and direct trade. Raising funds for Project Waterfall definitely resonates with this ethos.
