Story
This is a fundraising page to raise awareness of Ovarian Cancer - a major gynaecological killer for Women.
Bogusia was a dynamic individual, with a huge passion for life, she had many friends and a wonderful life. However, a dark shadow came over her after she was diagnosed with this awful Cancer in November 2018. This became a death sentence hanging over our small family, which was just the three of us; After University, my daughter left the UK to work in Austria. This left just the two of us alone at home. When I was away from work at home the disease progressed relentlessly. The cancer kept on returning after successive chemotherapy sessions. Bogusia was devastated, having regular tearful breakdowns at home. Being alone at home just added to the pain... None of us had family in the UK, Bogusia was from Poland and I was born in the UK. Although, Bogusia had a much larger network of friends than myself.
Eventually, in May 2023, we decided that she would live out whatever time she had left with her family in Poland, in her environment, rather than in being over here in a hospice.
Living in the UK meant that I had to return home after leaving her with her family to an empty house over in Rotherham. It is as if she had never existed. We had been married for nearly thirty years. This new situation meant that I had to give up my job as a maths lecturer/ departmental maths lead and take up a generous offer of a part-time job, online with a reputable UK company. Online work meant I could travel backwards and forwards between the UK and Poland and try to work.
The illness progressed relentlessly and in August/ September 2023 - Bogusia spent her last days in a hospice in Southern Poland after living the initial period with her patients.
Bogusia passed away on September 7th at the age of 51. The funeral was on the 11th of September - our 30th wedding anniversary. The fallout from her loss has been devastating for everyone.
I am back home in Rotherham, on my own, gradually closing things down in the house that has seen happier times...
Peter Jalowiczor,
Husband.
