As Director of Nursing for the Medicine Clinical Board at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, I have the privilege of seeing the dedication, compassion and commitment of our NHS staff every single day. I also see patients and families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

That is why Cardiff and Vale Health Charity means so much to me.

As the official charity of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, it supports our hospitals, wards, departments and community services by funding projects, equipment and improvements that go beyond what NHS funding alone can provide. These are often the things that make the biggest difference – bringing comfort, dignity and hope when people need it most.

Throughout my career, I have witnessed first-hand the impact the charity has had on our wards. It has helped create calmer, more welcoming environments, provided equipment that enhances patient care, and supported initiatives that improve the experience of patients, their families and our staff. These are not luxuries; they are the moments that help people feel cared for, valued and supported during some of the toughest times in their lives.

I’m taking on this challenge because I want to give something back to a charity that gives so much to others.
