Victoria HALF MARATHON · 10 November 2024

Meningitis Research Foundation is a charity driven by a passionate mission to prevent the devastating impact of meningitis. Founded by individuals whose lives were profoundly affected by meningitis, we are dedicated to enabling positive change by uniting people and knowledge to save lives.

Story

On 9th November it will be 5 years since my brother Graham passed away. To mark the 5th anniversary, and to continue raising money for a charity so close to my heart, Meningitis Research Foundation, I will be running the Victoria Park Half Marathon on the 10th November. A group of mine, and Graham's loved ones will also be running.

For those of you who don't know, Graham suddenly passed away from a rare strain of Meningitis at the age of 20. He passed away within hours, despite being vaccinated and not showing any usual Meningitis symptoms. Graham was the most selfless person I knew, even at the age of 20 he registered (twice!) to be an Organ Donor, saving 6 people's lives even after he passed away. He was an amazing person and is so sorely missed.

A few years ago, I organised a half marathon with over 40 of Graham's loved ones, where together we raised over £21,000 for MRF. This was incredible and made such a big difference to the charity.

Despite running (...with a little walking) this distance before, it's amazing how quickly you can lose it, so I'm back at square one. However, despite not being a natural runner, knowing I'm doing this for Graham makes it all worthwhile.

I really appreciate any donations as it all makes a difference; in the hope that one day, this disease doesn't take any more healthy people like Graham and other families won't have to experience the same devastating heartbreak we have gone through and continue to go through.

Thank you.
