We’ve been improving the lives of those who work or have worked at sea, and their families, for over 100 years. Established in 1917 as The King George's Fund for Sailors, to support the families of seafarers lost at sea during World War One, we support seafarers throughout their career and beyond.

Story

Carisbrooke is again looking to take on the 24 Peaks Challenge with two teams taking part over the 1st-2nd July 2023 in the rugged hills of the UK's Lake District. Over the Challenge weekend, our target is to scale (& descend) the equivalent of half the height of Everest in under 24 hours. Our teams are comprised of staff and partners of Carisbrooke with the aim to raise money in aide of seafarers and local seafaring charities. To get a flavour of last years Challenge, please see the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84U-t7OREgQ We sincerely hope that you will support our efforts, and thank you in advance for your consideration, and any donations you are able to make.

The primary charity we are supporting in this Challenge is the Seafarers’ Charity (formerly Seafarers UK). The Seafarers Charity has been been improving the lives of seafarers and their families for over 100 years. The charity started as the King George’s Fund for Sailors, providing vital assistance in troubled times. The charity continues to evolve guided by the same powerful vision. Through grant giving, the charity brings about truly life-changing impact for many who work – or have worked – at sea, and their families. Alongside this, funding is used for collaboration, research, and advocacy.

The second charity we are seeking to support is Stella Maris. Founded on the banks of the river Clyde in Glasgow in 1920, Stella Maris has grown into a global network of over 1,000 Chaplains and volunteers in 334 ports spread across 64 countries. Each year this remarkable team conducts up to 70,000 ship visits to provide welfare services, advice, friendship, practical and pastoral care to all seafarers, regardless of nationality, belief or race. It is the largest international ship-visiting charity in the world and has been looking after the welfare and wellbeing of seafarers for 102 years.

For both charities, perhaps now more than ever, their work has become even more crucial in helping seafarer welfare and assiting with repatriation which at times is either ignored or difficult, contracts extended, shore leave prohibited and communication to loved ones back home essential in order to help combat isolation, depression and address mental health issues.

NB Donations on this web site will be made 100% to The Seafarers Charity. Carisbrooke will donate 20p for every £1 raised on this site to Stella Maris. In case donors prefer instead to contribute direct to either charity, please contact us for further details so we can arrange.

Thank you again in advance for your support and kind consideration for these worthy causes.
