Story

Hi my names Carla and I am running the London marathon 2024, fundraising for EOS Network.

EOS - In my case aka EGE (Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis) -a rare and benign inflammatory disorder that predominantly affects the stomach & for me also the oesophagus.

I was diagnosed with this rare condition in 2020, where I fell severally ill and spent several weeks in hospital. I had no idea what was wrong with me and neither did the doctors. Why? because it’s so rare that there are not enough resources or professionals who are aware of this condition and know how to diagnose & treat it! I have faced so many challenges having EGE and many traumatic experiences being in and out of hospital, not getting the right care or treatment. The battle goes on and the struggles I face daily continues.

I have been apart of this amazing charity for over a year now, I got in contact with Amanda & the team through recovery of my last big flare up. I remember the time very well, I felt so low, isolated, alone, lost and was on the verge of giving up. They welcomed me with open arms and picked me back up again. The work they do is just incredible, they don’t just support patients & families affected by EOS, they work day in day out researching & provide a global platform for clinicians and researchers to connect and share the latest research and best evidence-based practice. They also provide educational resources and events for healthcare professionals to help them recognise symptoms, diagnose and treat EOS patients.

EOS network have supported me through my lowest days and have helped me see a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s my turn to give back to a community that means so much to me. So a small donation and your support would really mean so much to me and would help keep me motivated to run the London marathon for this good cause.

Every contribution counts towards achieving EOS mission of providing a prompt, accurate diagnosis, the right treatment, and support to live with this condition. Together we will raise more awareness, so your support, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of people affected by Eosinophilic-Associated diseases!

Thank you for your support & for taking the time out to read my story!
