Story
I’m running the Great North Run 2026 for the Anthony Nolan charity! I’ll be doing this in memory of my amazing, one of a kind Uncle Simon who unfortunately passed away in August 2025.
I have chosen to join the Anthony Nolan team in doing this as it is a cause so close my mine and my families hearts. In 2020 my Uncle Simon was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and through Anthony Nolan, he was able to find a stem-cell donor. This gave him an extraordinary 5 years. In this time he went on holidays, was able to walk his daughter down the aisle and meet his 3 beautiful granddaughters.
During these 5 years my Uncle was also able to meet his stem-cell donor who joined the register when he was only 18. His donor wasn’t contacted until almost 10 years after donating. This just goes to show how far such a simple and selfless act can have such a huge impact on a strangers life.
In June 2025 my Uncle took part in raising money for this charity with the help of his son in law Connor. A charity football match was put on at his local football club, followed my a raffle at a local social club to end the night. In doing this £6,700 was raised and it all went to Anthony Nolan.
I can currently barley run a 5k so i’ll be working very very hard over the next year to be able to smash this half marathon, and raise as much as possible for this amazing foundation!
Any donations to help me reach my fundraising goal will be greatly appreciated! Every pound matters, and together we can make a different.
Also get yourselves on the stem-cell register, you never know whose life you could change!
