On Sunday 22nd March I am going to be running the Rome marathon in memory of both of my grandads.
On the 14th January 2023 I lost one of my best friend Nonno after a long 6 year battle with Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer's. We was told 6 years ago back in the October, Nonno would only have 1 Christmas left, but defining all odds, he battled and battled for 6 years! Over the years myself and my family experienced Nonno drift away day by day and it was truly heartbreaking and all I wanted to do was to help but I couldn’t.
On the 9th November 2023, just under 10 months after Nonno passed, we lost Grandad Jim to Lewy Body Dementia. Grandad Jim had a short battle with Dementia and took him too soon. Seeing Grandad Jim decline so quickly whilst still grieving for Nonno was heart shattering on our family. I felt so hopeless and lost.
Mentally I really struggled and am still struggling now but I want to make a change and make them proud. I miss and think of them both every single day. All the memories I have with them both will stay with me forever.
I was so proud of my big sister when she raised and completed the London marathon for the same cause. I was inspired by what she done and felt like I wanted to do the same.
That is why I would like to raise as much money as possible for Race Against Dementia. All donations no matter how small are appreciated and mean a lot.
