Story
Everyone who knows me, knows my love of parkrun and that my Saturday pretty much always starts at my local (flat, tarmacked) parkrun!
Parkrun is a free, 5k timed community event where you can walk, jog run, volunteer or spectate at any one of the 1,348 parkrun events that take place every weekend all over the country.
Parkrun is positive, inclusive and welcoming and as I tell all of my friends you will never finish last, so just come and have a go!
The positivity and routine has been especially important for me recently when sadly my father passed away in January 2025, having 25-30(ish) minutes to jog/run my local parkrun course every week and forget about the world, with the support and friendly waves of the lovely volunteers and other runners was a much needed escape.
Parkrun is a charity entirely funded by donations, grants, sponsorship and its online shop. The community is growing all the time - but it's is all still based on the simple, basic principles formed from the start 20 years ago: weekly, free, for everyone, forever.
Doing my part to keep parkrun happening and expanding, by raising funds whilst completing the London Marathon 2026, at the same time as encouraging as many people as possible to sign up and take part in parkrun to start their passion for running, jogging or walking would be an incredible achievement and the best way I can think of to give back to an organisation that means so much to me.
