Raising awareness to protect UK Antarctic heritage

Carole McCullough is raising money for UK Antarctic Heritage Trust

9000 lunges Cambridge to Port Lockroy

The UK Antarctic Heritage Trust is a charity conserving Antarctica's rare historic sites. This includes Port Lockroy, the world's southernmost post office and museum. Back home, we connect people with Antarctica and why it matters to us all.

Story

Welcome to a bit of history...*

I'm lucky enough to be spending the austral summer at Port Lockroy, on tiny Goudier Island in Western Antarctica.

Goudier Island is a rocky outcrop roughly the size of a football pitch and home to approximately 1000 penguins. Suffice to say, opportunities to exercise will be limited.

As if living without running water, hot showers and fresh potatoes wasn't hard enough, I've challenged myself to 9000 lunges during my stay (approx 80-90 per day, every day...).

Why 9000? It represents the distance in miles from UK Antarctic Heritage HQ in Cambridge to Port Lockroy. Enthusiasm may wane after Christmas so knowing that I am being held accountable by donations here will be a huge help - thank you!

All money goes directly to the Trust to fund essential conservation work on our historical sites which are facing the very worst effects of climate change. You can find out more info at www.ukaht.org or follow us on social media at UK Antarctic Heritage Trust.

* this will be included in the UKAHT Archives and at every social event I attend for years to come...

Thank you so much for your support xx
