Story
In the heart of the bustling metropolis of London, where life races on and people pass like fleeting shadows, I've often felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness. Surrounded by towering buildings and busy streets, it's easy to get lost in the crowd and feel disconnected from the world around us. But amongst this fast-paced chaos, there's one constant source of companionship and comfort that has touched my heart profoundly: my cats Mochi and Leon! ❤️
The COVID-19 pandemic had led to an increase in loneliness in the UK: From October 2020 to February 2021, results from the Opinions and Lifestyle Survey (OPN) show that the proportion of adults feeling lonely in the country increased to 7.2% (this is nearly about 4 million adults).
Cats, with their enchanting eyes and gentle purrs, have a magical ability to offer unconditional love and a sense of belonging, even in the most isolating of times and places. I've chosen to run a half marathon in Windsor this September, to raise funds for the Cats Foundation charity – an organization that is dedicated to supporting these incredible feline friends and making a difference in their lives.
Despite the remarkable bond that cats forge with us, they are sometimes overlooked, facing challenges that hinder their well-being. It's harder for them to find loving forever homes, as some people prefer other pets or mistakenly believe that cats are aloof and distant.
Besides that, cats often receive less research funding compared to their canine counterparts, despite facing similar health issues and conditions. Just like dogs, cats can experience medical challenges that require comprehensive research and advancements in veterinary care.
As I lace up my running shoes and prepare to run the Windsor half marathon, I carry the vision of a world where no cat is left behind, where they are cherished, loved, and celebrated for the incredible joy they bring into our lives. 🐱
Your support, no matter the size, will have a profound impact on the lives of these gentle souls. Thank you for helping us make a difference – one purr at a time!
