Story

In the summer of 2025, my world changed when I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

What followed was surgery, eight rounds of chemotherapy, and twenty rounds of radiotherapy. The treatment meant I was unable to work and spent ten months at home, often alone with only my wonderful dog, Ray, for company.

It was one of the most physically and emotionally challenging periods of my life. The isolation was overwhelming, and there were days when I struggled to see beyond my diagnosis.

That’s when Longfield Community Hospice became a lifeline.

They provided counselling for both me and my family, helping us navigate the emotional impact of cancer. They also welcomed me into their singing group, where, even on my darkest days, I would leave with a smile thanks to the incredible people I met and the joy that music and friendship brought back into my life.

I was also able to receive complementary therapies, including massage and reflexology, at no cost. These treatments made a huge difference when both my body and mind were struggling.

Longfield’s support reminded me that I wasn’t facing cancer alone.

To say thank you and to help ensure others can access the same compassionate care, I’m taking on a wing walk to raise money for Longfield Community Hospice.

Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help Longfield continue providing vital support to people and families facing some of life’s toughest challenges.

Thank you so much for your kindness, encouragement, and support. It truly means the world to me.

Longfield

Longfield supports adults with life limiting conditions from diagnosis onwards, helping them understand their illness, cope day to day and live well. They also support families through grief and offer education for professionals caring for people at the end of life.

All services are free thanks to the generosity of the community, with over 85% of Longfield’s income coming from donations and fundraising. This year they need to raise over £4 million, so every contribution truly matters.

Every step or moment of this challenge helps ensure no one faces illness or loss alone.
