Update 23 July
It’s a hats game really isn’t it? A wet, smelly (Castle Howard Lake!), scary (what pot hole will the next big puddle conceal?) and slippery (perhaps trail shoes would have been better) hats game. And it is a great advantage to be a veteran!
Thanks so much to all of you very generous sponsors. It was all that money that meant I really couldn’t pull out. And all that rain meant I wanted to get it over!

On Tuesday (4 July) I rashly suggested I would do a triathlon. Since then I have cycled twice into town, sought out and found a pair of running shoes and done a swim.
I have learned the following:
1. However I might identify in terms of gender, with regard to goggles, Unisex is not my size.
2. Breathing on either side (essential for open water swimming) is an acquired skill - more easily lost I fear than reacquired.
3. Shoes with holes can be mended??? I will set to (again) with my needle and thread - it's only holes on the top.
4. Town isn't very far away. I may need to step up that training.
5. Entrance to the triathlon is still open - that might have been a good excuse to step aside.
So - please support me. It will be a challenge but I wont be breaking any records.
