Running for a Cure: My 10-Year Journey with Alzheimer’s Research UK

Hello I'm Caroline, thank you for taking the time to read my story so far.

I have been fundraising for Alzheimer's Research UK since 2016, and 2026 is a big one - my 10-year fundraising celebration! Over the past decade, with the amazing support of friends, family and some very generous strangers, I've raised £25,840 (and counting).

It all started when I joined the Alzheimer's Research UK summer challenge - Running Down Dementia - as a complete non-runner. Fast forward to today, and I've caught the running bug in a big way: I've completed countless events, challenges, such as running 1000 miles to celebrate my 50th Birthday, and even completed four London Marathons.

But running isn't the only way I've stepped out of my comfort zone. I've also thrown myself out of an aeroplane (on purpose!) organised raffles, created charity calendars, and hosted fundraising events - all in the name of finding a cure for dementia.

As a private carer in a rural community, I see the impact of dementia every day. Many of my clients live with this condition, which is why I am so passionate about supporting research for a cure.

During 2026 I will be taking on a series of challenges, one being running up and down the road where I live 147 times to reach the distance of a half marathon and involving the community to join me! I shall be holding some fundraising events and I would love to celebrate my 10 year anniversary by taking a step closer to my goal of raising 30k.
