Story

My Double Marathon Fundraising Story 🏃‍♀️💛

Why I’m running

My dad was a strong, active man — and dementia took that from him far too early.

This year, I’m running to honour his strength, his determination, and the part of him that lives on in me.

My dad started showing signs of dementia when he was only in his early 70s. He had always been a bright, clever, empathetic man, and my three sisters, my mum and I could all see that something wasn’t right. Telling him how we felt was incredibly hard. Going for tests was even harder.

I was with my mum and dad on the day they confirmed his diagnosis. The consultant showed us images of my dad’s brain and gently pointed out the gaps. It was heartbreaking.

At the same time, my mum also unwell with cancer, was grateful that at least my dad finally had a diagnosis and even shook the consultant’s hand to thank him. I understand that now — but at the time, my heart broke in that room.

What stands out most about my dad is that he never lost his physical strength. Right to the end, he stayed active, determined and strong. That strength mattered deeply to him — and it matters to me.

Like my Dad, running, sport and competition have always been part of who I am. I’m older now and not as fast as I once was, but I still carry his grit and determination. This is my way of honouring him.

The challenge

This year, at 58, I’m pushing myself further than ever.

I’m aiming to run two marathons in two months:

• Paris – April

• Edinburgh – May

Two cities.

Two marathons.

Two months. 💪

I did a marathon for the first time last year in London. but this year I’m going above and beyond — mentally, physically and emotionally — to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. I truly believe a cure is possible, and every pound helps move us closer.

I’m running to honour my dad, my uncle and my grandma 🕊️

And I’m running for my generation — because this disease affects far too many families.

Thank you

I only need to raise £1,000, and even £1 makes a difference.

If you’re able to donate, I’d be incredibly grateful.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for supporting me through every mile.

I promise — this really will be my last year of marathon running 🏃‍♀️💛
