Story

It’s time to Beat The Lochs

Last year, I signed up to take on the Marie Curie “Beat the Loch” challenge on the 20th June this year . At the time, I was looking for a challenge —a goal to work towards while raising money for an incredible charity

I never imagined just how personal that cause could become.

In March this year, my mum was admitted to hospital after suddenly becoming unwell with chest and stomach pains. What followed was something no family ever expects to hear—she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer that had already spread. Since then, she has received outstanding care from the team at Forth Valley Royal, along with support from Macmillan, Maggie’s, and Marie Curie. She is now continuing her treatment journey with the amazing team at The Beatson.

Through it all, my mum has shown a strength and bravery I can’t begin to describe and is still the same inspiring woman I’ve always looked up to. Even now, she is more concerned about everyone else than herself. She is determined to fight this with everything she has, surrounded by the love and support of her family and friends.

Knowing that organisations like Marie Curie are there for families like ours should we ever need it brings a huge sense of comfort.

This June, I’ll be taking on the 34km hike around the Theee Lochs at Aberfoyle, come rain or shine. Every step I take will be for my mum, and for all the families who rely on the care and compassion that Marie Curie provides.

If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean so much. Your support—and the thought of my mum—will keep me going every step of the way.

Thank you. 💛🌻
