Story

Yes, it’s true … you could win £1,000 of lovely local vouchers by entering this amazing competition!

I’m Carolyn from the Wokingham Word, and this competition is only made possible thanks to the generosity of 10 of my wonderful local business advertisers.

The winner of this prize will receive the following amazing vouchers:

Ace Cleaning £100

Anvil Forge £100

Berkshire Flower School £100

Funky Flowers £100

Gardeneer £100

Hire A Hubby £100

OvenU £100

Phil’s Good Food £100

Pratts Pods £100

Edmunds Exhausts/Wok Tyres £100

TOTAL: £1,000

Plus, there’s a BONUS PRIZE of 4 tickets to see Aladdin, Wokingham’s very own pantomime at the Whitty Theatre, worth another £70!!!

Entry costs just £5 and the entire amount goes to CLASP, the charity that supports adults with learning disabilities in the Wokingham area.

Every £5 earns you one entry, so if you donate £20, you'll be entered 4 times.

The winner will be drawn at midday on Friday 8th December. It’s very important you check back here or on my Facebook page, or website www.thelocalword.com ON THAT DAY to see if you’re the lucky winner, so put a note in your diary. I will make every attempt to contact the winner, but if the prize isn't claimed within 48 hours, it will be drawn again. You will obviously need to mark your JustGiving donation clearly with your full name, so don’t be shy! Panto tickets are for 7pm Sat 30th December.

Your donation will contribute to my Chosen Charity for 2023, CLASP. You may have read all about them in the Wokingham Word in recent months, and the wonderful work they do supporting adults with learning disabilities with a huge range of activities, friendship, and help to live their best life.

The Happy & Healthy Club is a perfect example of CLASP's mission, offering a range of fun, healthy, active and informative activities which improve lives. Adults with learning difficulties suffer from significant health inequality, and typically deal with much worse mental and physical health.

Council funding to support CLASP is being cut, so it's my aim to raise as much money as possible, to enable the Happy & Healthy Club to continue; it costs £3,000 a year. We raised a wonderful amount at the Wokingham Festival (£1,150) but more is needed. Please consider entering this competition to make a real difference to the lives of CLASP members. Thank you so much x

We are a self-advocacy group for people with learning disabilities in the Wokingham borough. Self-advocacy is when you speak up for yourself about the things that are important to you. CLASP help people with learning disabilities to do this. We support each other to speak up for our rights and live more independently. CLASP stands for Caring, Listening And Supporting Partnership. How is CLASP helping people to speak up for themselves? As a user-led organisation – we are run by our members. We employ people with learning disabilities and offer voluntary opportunities. We support our members to have their say about how local services are developed. We have a training group called Listen To Us – who deliver learning disability awareness training. We run a campaigning group called Take Notice. We work in partnership with other organisations to run projects. We provide one to one support, information, advice and signposting.
