Story
On a personal level I am doing the firewalk to fundraise for Rainbows because my 8 month old niece, Maya, passed away in August 2023 from multiple malignant rhabdoid tumours. She was first diagnosed just before she turned 5 months old and the NHS and her parents have been amazing at ensuring she got quality time with her family and was pain free during her cancer journey. We are heartbroken to no long have Maya here with us but as her favourite auntie I want to fundraise in her memory.
Rainbows have 2 family bereavement rooms which allow a child's parents and family to spend some extra time with their little one after they have passed away. This really helped my brother and his fiance begin to come to terms with the loss of Maya in those immediate days after she passed. I can't thank Rainbows enough for caring for Maya and them whilst they stayed at the hospice. I'm hoping my fundraising can go toward helping ensure other children and their families are able to access the hospice should they need to.
From the Rainbows team
Sadly, some children just don't live long enough.
As the East Midlands only hospice for children and young people, Rainbows is a place where life-limited children and their families can find care and support. Our incredible team of people help relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, support parents and siblings through their bereavements and care for children until the end.
Please take a look at our website www.rainbows.co.uk to see more about how your support helps families through the toughest times and you will be helping make precious memories.
Rainbows is a place where children can laugh, play and make every precious moment count, while families already bereaved are supported through the toughest times. Because of you and other supporters like you, a family will be able to make special memories they will cherish forever and bring a smile to their childs face as they laugh and play.
Please help the team brighten short lives - thank you
