Story
When I was a girl growing up, event hough I was active in many sports and activities, I never truly felt like I had a place to just be myself. I was shy, reserved, and scared of everything. As an adult and mom, I found myself volunteering with my daughter's troop and realized very quickly that this was the place I needed as a child - but what's more - that I could be a part of as a grown up.
I led my daughter through her High School graduation and now you can find her, a lifetime member aslo, at many of our programs as a volunteer. When she was in the 8th grade, i started a Daisy troop "for just a year to get them going" and those Kindergarteners are now in 7th and 8th grade!
In addition to getting to learn with them and because of them, I also formed an amazing sisterhood with their caregivers. I know that not only do the Girl Scouts in my troop have each other's backs, but so do the adults of the troop. I don't think you can find that in any other organization.
Did you know that one in five girls in Connecticut currently identifies as disconnected? We have the unique opportunity to help girls feel safe and build relationships with strong women mentors.
