Story
I’m absolutely thrilled (as well as completely terrified!) to share that in April 2026 I’ll be taking on the London Marathon. What makes this challenge so meaningful is that I’ll be running it to raise money for Retina UK, a charity that directly impacts my family as well as my future.
My incredible dad was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) when he was 18. This inherited eye disease causes progressive sight loss by damaging the light sensitive cells in the retina at the back of the eye. Over time, these cells stop working altogether and now dad has lost the majority of his vision.
I am in constant awe of the way my dad navigates this disease. What he lacks in sight, he makes up for by being the absolute guru of the Physiotherapy world, the most caring, supportive and loving dad and someone who never loses sight of a good joke (yes… blind jokes are definitely allowed in my family).
Growing up and watching my dad slowly lose his sight has made me deeply aware of the emotional and psychological toll of losing something so precious that most of us take for granted.
Moreover, as a female I’m a genetic carrier of the disease, so that means if I have a son, there’s a 50% chance he’ll inherit this condition. This is a reality that quietly sits in the background of my thoughts and future plans.
Unfortunately at the moment, there’s no cure for RP — but Retina UK are funding crucial medical research into new treatments for the future as well as supporting people affected by inherited sight loss. They are the only UK charity dedicated specifically to this work.
I would be so grateful for any donation you can afford!! X
