Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Ed and Charles are running the Oxford Half Marathon on Sunday 13 October for Home-Start Banbury, Bicester and Chipping Norton (with Charles doing it remotely on the sweltering streets of Dubai). Home-Start is a family support charity and our father works for the branch near home.

It helps families who are reaching breaking point because of isolation, bereavement, illness, poverty, and more. Children miss out on the most important years of their life because of family crisis. With Home-Start support, their childhood can start now.

Their highly-trained volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown. The families supported may be struggling with family life for many different reasons such as isolation, post-natal depression, domestic abuse, relationship problems, illness, a new baby and many other reasons.

There was a recent article on the BBC and a ‘Rest is Money’ podcast which both highlighted the extreme costs to the government of paying to house children in private care homes and associated profiteering by companies. Charities like Home Start aim to help families manage and address issues earlier, and so hopefully prevent the need for more children to go into care.
