Story
I’m not sure if I’ve gone totally mad, but I’ve signed up to jump out of a plane from 15,000ft high in August this year. This isn’t just to face my fear of heights, it’s more importantly in the hopes of raising money for a wonderful charity. The grand appeal are the Bristol children’s hospital charity who provide support for sick children and their families. They do this through funding ground breaking research; providing family accommodation; funding essential hospital equipment; funding music, play and art therapy as well as much more.
It goes without saying how invaluable this type of support is, and through my job which I started back in September as a Newley qualified nurse, we see first hand the positive impact charity donations have on a child’s experience in hospital.
I work on starlight ward, which is the haematology, oncology and bone marrow transplant unit within the children’s hospital in Bristol. Due to the nature of the treatments provided for these conditions, the lovely patients and their incredible family and friend support network can spend significant periods of time in and out of the hospital settings.
I am so lucky to have such a rewarding job where you get to see children grow throughout their treatment. It is an environment where a visit from a play therapist can make the difference between a terrible day, and a day of laughter and learning for the child. Any money raised will certainly impact a young persons life, and what a privilege it is to be able to help this charity continue its amazing work.
I have to note; this fundraising page is towards the cost of the skydive as well as the money raised going to the charity directly.
Any donations or shares will be hugely appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read my ramble !
