Story
On 15th June I am “finding ultra” at Race To The King: a 50 Kilometre trail run around the Chichester coast. It’ll be the furthest I’ve ever run and I’d love to raise funds for a special charity and social enterprise that I’ve been involved with for the past decade: Luminary.
Luminary is a charity and social enterprise designed to offer opportunities for women who’ve experienced social and economic disadvantage. They provide a safe and professional environment where women can grow holistically – encouraging ambition, restoration and second chances. Using baking as a tool, Luminary take women on a journey to employability and entrepreneurship, equipping them with transferable skills for the working world. They offer courses, work experience and paid employment within their bakery. Through training, employment and community - Luminary aim to break cycles of poverty, violence and disadvantage once and for all.
My training has been:
- 844.4km of running (speed work.. hills... sprints… long runs… even longer runs)
- Strength work
- Stretching & yoga
- Fuelling & re-fuelling - and lots of cake :)
Fuelled by determination, passion and Luminary bakes, I’ve now reached ‘taper week’ injury free and excited for the immense challenge ahead of me.
A donation of any amount will allow Luminary to continue their important work and I’m planning to dedicate a kilometre to everyone who supports!
Additional ways to support:
- Visit one of the Luminary cafes, buy a coffee and a cake and experience their incredible work first hand. Or online at: https://luminarybakery.com
- Song suggestions for my (long) playlist: I’ll think of you when it comes on!
- Wisdom / advice / words of encouragement / all the vibes on Saturday: I set off at 6.30am and would love any thoughts & energy you have spare!
