York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity raises funds to help make a positive difference in your local hospital - making patients, relatives and visitors feel better and providing a level of care that is beyond that which NHS funding alone could deliver.

Story

Hello, our names are Cassie and Julie. We work at Scarborough Hospital as palliative care clinical nurse specialists. End of Life Care is something that’s close to our hearts both professionally and personally.

Palliative care isn’t just part of our work; it’s a deeply human experience we’ve seen touch so many lives. At such a vulnerable time, comfort, dignity, and closeness matter more than anything. Sadly, hospital environments can feel clinical and isolating. So that's when we thought about how do we improve the patients experience at end of life? And we thought of the cuddle bed. Sadly these beds come at a price ranging between £10,000 and £15,000. So we decided to do something out of our comfort zone for this cause.

So we are taking the leap—literally—by doing a skydive for The Autumn Project, a project linked with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospital Charity that is dedicated to improving end-of-life care. We are raising funds to purchase a 'cuddle bed', a specially designed hospital bed that allows loved ones to lie next to each other during those final precious moments; enabling families the chance to hold each other, share memories, and be truly present, just as they would at home

It brings warmth, closeness, and a sense of normality during an incredibly difficult time. No one should have to say goodbye from a distance. Your donation can help bring families together when it matters most, offering warmth, touch and presence at a time when words often fall short.

Please help us bring comfort into a hospital setting where it’s needed most. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference.

If we happen to reach our target and/or exceed to cost of the 'cuddle bed' the remaining funds will go into the Autumn project fund towards other items to improve end of life care experience for patients and their families, such as radios, lamps, toiletory packs etc.

We did it! Absolutely amazing experience 😊 still time to donate. And you can now see some pics of the completed jump
