Story
We are fundraising for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), a charity that Neil chose to support through his London Marathon, and one that feels fitting as a tribute to his life and work.
Neil dedicated his career to healthcare architecture. He believed passionately in the importance of good healthcare design and in the difference that thoughtful, well-designed environments can make to patients, their families and the people who care for them.
When choosing a charity for his London Marathon, Neil spent considerable time researching the organisations he might support. He ultimately chose MSF because he felt its mission, independence and the way it put its resources to work reflected the values that mattered to him.
In Neil's own words:
"In the past 43 years, I have designed hospitals in over 15 countries; however, these have mainly been in developed or middle-income countries. I am aware healthcare is very inequitable; the fact that there are 7.5 times fewer beds per 1000 people in low-income countries than in developed countries is just one example of this.
Therefore, as a retirement project, I'm running the marathon with the aim of making a small contribution to MSF, which does so much to address this gap.
MSF is an international charity that delivers lifesaving medical care to the people who need it most. More than 90 percent of their funding comes from people like you and me. They don't take money from governments which allows them to remain independent. Private donations mean they can send medical teams to help people in unstable situations like the conflicts in Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan, and currently Ukraine.
If you would like to find out more about them see here: www.msf.org.uk
Your generosity would mean a lot to me and MSF. "
