As you may know, I have been an advocate for breast cancer awareness, research and care for many years. It is a subject close to me as I have lost family members, currently support a family member living with cancer and actively engage in a breast screening programme myself.

I became a member of the patient and supporter group at NBCRC in January 2022. I am so passionate about the research the centre does and have the privilege of engaging with others with a shared interest in this area including those affected by cancer, researchers, scientists and the amazing NBCRC team. How fantastic is it that we have this research happening here in Nottingham!

I am running to support clinical and academic researchers at the Nottingham Breast Cancer Research Centre to continue their work to find a cure for breast cancer. We have to keep going with this valuable research for future generations.

In the UK alone, there are around 56,000 new cases of breast cancer in women, and over 350 new cases in men every year- that's over 150 cases every day. That's far too many people each year hearing the awful news that they have breast cancer, throwing them and their loved ones into turmoil.

Sadly, although progress has been made in the development of new treatments and the understanding of this disease, approximately 11,500 women and 80 men in the UK will still die each year from breast cancer. That's far too many loved ones left grieving each year if treatment options run out.

The research and work the centre does relies on donations so any donations for this half marathon are so very much appreciated.
