For over 30 years, Tusk has helped pioneer a range of successful conservation initiatives across more than 20 African countries, safeguarding millions of hectares of ecosystems, empowering local communities and increasing protection for some of the continent's most treasured threatened species.

Story

Catella APAM are fundraising for Conservation Lower Zambezi (“CLZ”), via Tusk Trust, to support a vital community sports day called ‘Rubatano’ which is being held on 8 June 2024. The Catella APAM Team are targeting to raise £5,000 to support this event and are self-funding a trip to Zambia in June to help run the event and see the impressive impact that CLZ have on the community. No part of the fundraising will be used to cover any staff costs.

CLZ is a not for profit organisation which is committed to protecting the wildlife and environment of the Lower Zambezi National Park (https://www.conservationlowerzambezi.org/). This national park provides refuge to globally threatened wildlife and indigenous vegetation. CLZ believe it is their duty to ‘work today for a better tomorrow’ and preserve this special reserve from environmental threats such as poaching. In addition to this, CLZ supports women’s empowerment within their local communities by helping women to feel engaged with conservation and financially empowering their needs. CLZ currently supports the ‘Mbelis’ (meaning ‘moving forward’ in the local language) which is a women’s group in the Chiawa GMA with the aim to develop their skills, create means of an income, take ownership of a business and find a market for their products.

RUBATANO:

Rubatano is a key event in CLZ’s community engagement programme with the aim of promoting relationships between the local community members, DNPW, conservation, lodges and other stakeholders outside of the law enforcement realm with which CLZ is often associated. By increasing knowledge and engaging communities in conservation topics through an exciting community day, CLZ aims to improve attitudes towards wildlife and natural resources. This educational approach helps to build a local community that takes pride in Zambia’s natural heritage and feel responsible for its protection.

APAM have been proudly supporting this charity for 8 years and directly sponsoring Rubatano for 5 years. Any donation you would be able to provide would be going towards a fantastic cause.
