Cath's fundraiser for Motor Neurone Disease Association

An active runner, cyclist and outdoor enthusiast for most of her life, in late 2023, Cath/Cathy/Catherine/Mum, was struck with Motor Neurone Disease, severely affecting her lower limbs, leaving her unable to walk.
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a rare and incurable condition that progressively damages parts of the nervous system that send messages to your muscles telling them what to do. This leads to muscle weakness, often deteriorating the muscles completely. 5000 adults in the UK are affected a year, including Rugby League player, Rob Burrow, who has very quickly become an inspiration to Cath and her family.
Cath now spends all of her time in a wheelchair, and needs constant care. Despite this, Cath continued to pursue her love of the outdoors and her active lifestyle as much as she can. With her husband, Alan, they took on some iconic running events. In their specially prepared running wheelchair built in the MND Association's navy and orange colour scheme they ran The Great North run in 2024. Cath's daughter, Olivia, will be flying the MND flag this weekend at the Hackney Half.
A cure for this debilitating disease is only a few years away. Perhaps still too far for Cath, and certainly not soon enough for Rob Burrow. Any donation will support the MND Association to pay for the numerous aids that are required to help Cath and others affected, maintain a quality of life. Further, it will support the research aimed to discover new treatments, and ultimately a cure for this horrible disease.
