Cathedral to Cathedral cycle challenge for the Cardinal Hume Centre

London to Paris cycle challenge · 17 July 2025
We are Jamie, Bill and Josh - a team of year-12 students from the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School in London, and we are embarking on a MASSIVE challenge for a great cause. In just a few weeks, we will be undertaking the "Cathedral to Cathedral' challenge - cycling from Westminster Cathedral in London to Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral (via Cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Amiens or Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen).
We are inspired by our school motto, "Amare et Servire," which is Latin for "To love and to serve". This challenge is not just about pushing us to our limits, it’s about serving others less fortunate - by raising funds for the Cardinal Hume Centre, a charity dedicated to helping young homeless people and families facing poverty in London.
Did you know that 8,847 young people in London approached their local authority as homeless? The Cardinal Hume Centre responds to this urgent crisis by providing a safe home for young individuals aged 16-24 who find themselves homeless. They offer these young people a second chance at life, allowing them to live at the Centre for around two years while receiving vital support into education and employment. It's 24 hours/7-days support.
Homelessness and poverty affect many children, young people, and families in our city today. The Centre assists some of the 3,800 children under 18 who are homeless—this statistic is just in Westminster alone, where the waiting list for a council flat can be 29 years!
For our challenge, we will cover over 300 miles. We want to prove that with determination and support from others, anything is possible. This journey will test us both physically and mentally; however, every mile will be worth it if we can raise money to help those who are less fortunate.
We have set an ambitious target to support this incredible cause. Every donation counts—whether big or small—and your generosity can make a real difference.
Please remember to tick the Gift Aid box if you can. Additionally, we would greatly appreciate it if you could share our fundraising page on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X Twitter. And share in your business networks or 'match fund'. Your support means the world to us—it really has the power to change lives.
Thank you so much for considering our cause.
