Catherine is fundraising for SWAY by Wing Walking
Catherine has been a volunteer for South Wight Area Youth (SWAY) for over 10 years. It's a small Christian charity with a big heart to support young people and their families in the South Wight community on the Isle of Wight. The charity is there to give families hope and focus. Through The Hub at Chale Green, SWAY provide a community centre, youth groups, mentoring, outdoor activities and residential trips, building young people's confidence, resilience and encouraging a 'can do' spirit.
This is the most daring adventure she has undertaken: missing out on a parachute jump for charity 35 years ago, being pregnant, Catherine sees this as an opportunity to seize the day with this personal challenge, whilst raising money for a great cause. Catherine is married to Ian, a retired aerospace engineer, who is giving Catherine his full support but relieved that it is Catherine who will be taking to the wing for this daring experience rather than himself.
Catherine will be strapped to Ethel Dares' beautiful 1940's Boeing Stearman biplane flying at over 100mph.
I am looking forward to a roller coaster airborne ride and hoping the adrenaline rush will get me through it. I like adventure, but this will be taking me to new heights! It's a heart racing challenge but for a fabulous cause. "
Catherine's Wing Walk was to be on Saturday, 5th September 2026 at Sandown Airport. Unfortunately, due to poor weather conditions the flight has been postponed. A new date to be confirmed.
Thanks to your support she has raised more than her £1000 target.
Every pound donated helps SWAY to continue their work and make a positive impact on lives on the Isle of Wight.
