Story
I am taking part in Colostomy UK's annual Step Up for Stomas, Active April fundraiser!
Our beautiful brave Matilda. Pretty much since birth, Matilda has suffered with chronic bowel issues. Over the years this has progressively gotten worse, with 2025 being the worst. Missing days from school, losing weight, sleepless nights of her in pain and generally not being a happy like girl. At the end of last year the decision was made by our consultants that we had exhausted all options and it was now time for her to have a stoma. On the 5th March Matilda had her surgery, and after a slightly longer stay in hospital than originally planned she is doing amazing! Matilda has taken to the stoma bag so much better than we could ever have anticipated and we could not be more proud of her. We are hoping that it is temporary and at some point it can be reversed.
Not until we were thrown into this world did I realise that everyday in the UK, 55 people undergo stoma surgery. So, for April I’m taking part in Colostomy UK’s Step up for Stomas, Active April challenge. Colostomy UK are a charity who support individuals with all types of stomas as well are family, friends and carers.
Anyone who knows me knows I hate exercise and I’m not the fittest person, so I’ll be doing 55 minutes a day of brisk walking (I don’t run, sorry) With the lighter evenings I plan on upping my step count, getting some fresh air and raise some money along the way. I know that everything is so expensive at the moment, but if you can spare any change and support me that would be fab. And if anyone fancies a walk I’m always up for some company xxxx
